Given the move of ECB to infuse liquidity into the system the inflation will move up further. “The inflation is on higher side and the worrying part is the increase in index numbers of the non-food articles. “The rise in inflation of the non-food articles is disturbing & points to the fact that the RBI’s recent increases in the interest rates are having no impact on inflation.  To my mind it is the shift in the consumption pattern of the Indian economy that is making inflation somewhat stubborn.  Small rises of 25 to 50 basis points would have no impact on consumption patterns.  A little stricter stance has to be taken by the RBI wherein the consumerism is bought down to realistic levels.  It is a very tight rope that the RBI has to walk on because incase interest rates go up by 100 basis points we may see the GDP numbers falling close to 6% something which India cannot afford in view of the population growth rate.  Thus it is more of fiscal measures that will help control inflation in the coming months.  The Government borrowing figures are also disturbing & a bit of fiscal discipline have to be brought into the system to control inflation.”
